Which is the best school in Indore?

How do I choose a school in Indore for my child?

What should I look for in a CBSE school in Indore?

TL;DR: No publicly available ranking of the best schools in Indore rests on independent, audited data, so the right school is the one that fits how your child learns, what your family plans next and a daily routine your child can sustain. Judge every shortlisted school on the same eight criteria: board, teaching quality, class size, safety, discipline, activities, values and distance. Ask each school to show you evidence, such as board results across several years, a written student-teacher ratio and working safety systems, instead of describing them. Shortlist three or four schools, visit each on a normal working day, and confirm admission rules with the school itself before you pay anything. There is no single best school in Indore, only the best fit for your child Most "top 10 schools in Indore" lists online come from schools ranking themselves first, or from directories that do not explain how they chose the schools they list. Each list names a different winner. That pattern says more about who wrote each list than about how well any school teaches. Star ratings carry a similar weakness. A high score says little until you know how many families gave it, and on many Indore listings the number is small enough for one parent to move the average. Read reviews as a source of questions, then speak to parents whose children attend the school today. School fit is the match between a school's teaching, routine and values and one particular child's way of learning, needs and goals. invest4Edu's February 2026 parent guide suggests working this out before you shortlist: does your child lean towards academics, creative work or hands-on learning, and do they do better with fixed routines or with flexibility? Your answers decide which criteria below carry the most weight. Use one scorecard for every school, so a strong first impression at one campus does not hide a gap you would have spotted elsewhere. The table shows each criterion, the question that tests it, and how Guru Rajendra Jain International School (GRJIS) answers it, as one worked example from our own admission handbook. Start with your child's next step, then choose the board Board affiliation is the formal recognition a school holds from an examination board, and it decides the syllabus your child follows and the board examinations they eventually sit. For families planning around Indian entrance examinations, start with CBSE. invest4Edu's guide describes CBSE as a uniform national syllabus built on NCERT textbooks, with a strong emphasis on Science and Mathematics, and says families planning for national-level competitive examinations often prefer it. A uniform syllabus also helps if a parent's job may take the family to another city. What to look for in a CBSE school in Indore Every CBSE school follows the same framework, so the difference lies in how its teachers deliver it. Note the CBSE affiliation number shown on the school's website and confirm it with CBSE directly rather than taking it on trust. Then ask for Class X and XII board results for the past few years, broken down by subject, and ask how the whole class progressed, because one year of toppers can reflect who a school admitted as much as how it taught. When another board makes more sense Besides CBSE, parents in India can choose CISCE, IB or IGCSE schools, and the same invest4Edu guide separates them by focus: a detailed curriculum and language proficiency for CISCE, inquiry-driven learning for IB, and flexible subject choice for IGCSE. A family aiming at a university abroad weighs these differently from one aiming at JEE or NEET. Not every board is offered near every Indore neighbourhood, so check what is available before you settle on a teaching approach. Teaching quality and class size tell you more than a school's reputation Teaching quality is the part of a school you cannot see from the gate, so it needs the most direct questions. invest4Edu's guide lists what to evaluate: teacher qualifications and experience, the balance between exam preparation and conceptual learning, the use of assessments and feedback, and support for children who learn differently. A school that answers with a recent worksheet, a feedback note or a remedial plan is showing you how it actually works. Student-teacher ratio is the number of students enrolled for every teacher on staff, which is not the same as the number of children sitting in one classroom. Ask for both figures in writing. Classroom strength affects how much attention each child receives, and smaller classes often encourage participation, as the invest4Edu guide notes . No independent source we rely on sets an ideal number, so compare the written figures across your shortlist rather than chasing a benchmark. GRJIS states a student-teacher ratio of 10:1 in its admission handbook, across more than 30 classrooms. The handbook also tells parents plainly that enrolment does not guarantee promotion, because students must meet the school's minimum academic standards to move up a class. Safety, discipline and student support need proof, not promises A school that can show you its safety systems deserves more trust than one that only describes them. On your visit, ask to see how the gate checks visitors, where cameras cover the campus, how attendance is recorded and who supervises the buses. Request the written policy on emergencies, bullying and substance issues too. Emotional safety needs the same scrutiny. invest4Edu's guide suggests checking for counsellors, a mentorship or advisory programme, a clear anti-bullying policy, accessible teachers and regular communication with parents. A school that has these will name its counsellor and hand you the policy. Discipline is the set of rules and routines a school enforces every day, and it shows up in written codes rather than in assembly speeches. Ask whether parents sign a code of conduct and what happens when a rule is broken. At GRJIS, a residential campus, these rules are in writing. Gates stay locked to visitors outside office hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, parents carry a Parent ID card and sign a visitor register, and only parents and guardians may enter the hostel. Hostel hours run from 5:30 AM to 10:30 PM, parents sign a code of conduct and a medical declaration at admission, and the campus has a medical room. Some rules are strict by design: students take one ten-minute audio call a week with the person their parents nominate, so decide honestly whether that rhythm suits your child before you apply. Facilities, activities and values should show up in the weekly timetable A facility matters only if your child uses it. invest4Edu's guide lists the infrastructure to check: a secure, child-friendly campus, modern classrooms and laboratories, libraries and learning tools, sports grounds and activity spaces, and clean, hygienic facilities. Walk the campus and ask for the co-curricular timetable, which tells you how often a class actually reaches the pool, the lab or the music room. GRJIS sits on a 9-acre campus, 5 acres of it play area, according to its handbook. The school lists 7 laboratories, a 7,000 sq ft library, swimming, lawn tennis, football, basketball, cricket practice nets and a running track, along with rooms for dance, music, art and craft, and in-house farming. Parents receive the co-curricular timetable and the weekly food menu in the handbook before they apply. Values are the beliefs a school acts on in its daily routine, and you test them by asking where they appear in the timetable. GRJIS describes itself as a "Modern-Day Gurukul" that blends modern success with Bhartiya Sanskar, and its routine combines academic study, yoga and the independence of hostel life. When a school's values match your family's, your child settles faster; when they clash, no facility makes up for the mismatch. Distance shapes your child's day, in a day school or a boarding school Long commutes cut into the time a child has for rest, play and family, according to invest4Edu's guide , which lists distance, transport safety and daily travel time as factors to review. For a day school, do a trial run of the route at the hour school actually starts, and check that a bus covers your colony with a pickup time that still lets your child sleep enough. A nearby school can still mean a long daily trip if the route runs through school-hour traffic. Boarding changes the question. GRJIS is a residential school at Mohankheda Jain Tirth, Rajgarh (Dhar), Madhya Pradesh, so the daily commute disappears and the distance that matters is the one parents travel. Visits take place on the last Sunday of each month, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Before admission, the school counsellor meets the child to understand their strengths, learning style and readiness for boarding life, which is the right conversation to have with any residential school. Which questions should you ask on a school visit? Use this sequence for every school on your list, so a polished open day does not decide for you. The same questions, asked in the same order, make the final comparison fair. Shortlist three or four schools. Start from your child's needs, then filter by board and by a commute or boarding arrangement your family can manage. Visit on a normal working day. Watch a class in session, notice how teachers address children and see whether students look engaged. An event day shows any school at its most rehearsed. Ask for evidence on each criterion. Request board results over several years, the student-teacher ratio in writing and a demonstration of the safety systems. Note who answers readily and who promises to send it later. Check how the school talks to parents. invest4Edu's guide names the signs of healthy communication as scheduled parent-teacher meetings, clear academic updates, feedback and grievance channels, and orientation sessions. Ask exactly how you would raise a concern in the middle of a term. Get every fee in writing. Ask for a breakdown of tuition, transport, activity and annual charges, how fees have changed in past years, and the refund and withdrawal policy. A school that hands this over before you pay is one you can plan with. Confirm the admission rules for your session. Ask which classes are open, the age eligibility, the documents needed and whether there is an entrance test or interaction. These details change from session to session, so confirm them for your year. At GRJIS, admission begins with a campus visit, a meeting with the school counsellor and a guided tour of the academic blocks, boarding facilities, sports areas and dining spaces. The handbook sets out in writing which fees are non-refundable and the notice required for withdrawal; for current fees and dates, see the admissions page on grjis.com . Best Schools in Indore: How to Choose the Right One for Your Child

No school in Indore is best for every child, and no publicly available ranking of Indore schools rests on independent, audited data. Most online "best school in Indore" lists come from schools or directories with a stake in the result. The best school in Indore for your child is the one that fits their learning style, goals and routine.

Choose a school in Indore by first working out how your child learns, then shortlisting three or four schools by board and distance. Compare each school on board, teaching quality, class size, safety, discipline, activities, values and distance. Visit every school on a working day and ask for evidence rather than descriptions.

Look for a CBSE school in Indore that displays an affiliation number you can confirm with CBSE, shares Class X and XII results across several years by subject, and explains how its teachers assess, give feedback and resolve doubts. Every CBSE school follows the same syllabus, so teaching practice is what separates one from another.

Online ratings of Indore schools are a weak guide on their own. Many rest on a small number of votes, so one family's experience can shift the score noticeably. Use ratings of Indore schools to form questions, then talk to parents whose children currently attend each school before you decide anything.

Can I trust online ratings of Indore schools?

Yes. Guru Rajendra Jain International School (GRJIS) is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education under affiliation code 1030981, according to its admission handbook. GRJIS is a residential school at Mohankheda Jain Tirth, Rajgarh (Dhar), Madhya Pradesh, and is an initiative of K2 Learning.

Is GRJIS a CBSE school, and where is it?

Admission at GRJIS begins with a campus visit, a meeting with the school counsellor and a guided tour. The child then sits an entrance exam of 50 multiple-choice questions from the previous year's curriculum, with one retest allowed, followed by an interaction with the Principal. Current GRJIS fees and dates are on the school's admissions page.

The Case for Phone-Free Schools - by Jon Haidt

How do I reduce my child's mobile addiction?

What are the signs of phone addiction in children?

Do mobile-free schools help children?

TL;DR: Mobile addiction in children is the everyday name for problematic phone use, where a child cannot control when they start and stop and the phone crowds out sleep, study and friendships. Psychiatrist Naomi Fineberg told Children and Screens that the key warning sign is not the time spent on a device but whether the child can control that use. A mobile-free routine sets fixed phone-free times, such as meals and the hour before bed, and fills them with something better; clinicians recommend it, though no trial has measured it. Evidence that mobile-free schools help comes mainly from England, Norway, Scotland and the US, much of it correlational, and none of the figures in this guide describe Indian children. A routine works best when parents follow it too and present it as protection rather than punishment. Is mobile addiction in children a recognised medical condition? Phone addiction is not a formal medical diagnosis, even though the term is used every day. As of late 2023, the World Health Organization's ICD-11 recognised only two specific disorders of addictive behaviour, gambling disorder and gaming disorder, according to the Children and Screens family guide . A Johns Hopkins psychologist notes there is debate over whether it is a true addiction, which is why many clinicians prefer "problematic" or "compulsive" use. Researchers still take the pattern seriously: a January 2026 narrative review in Cureus calls problematic mobile phone use a growing public health concern among children, marked by compulsive use, withdrawal-like distress and disruption to school and social life. Why do children find phones so hard to put down? Children face a product built to hold attention with a brain that is still learning how to stop. The Cureus review notes that children's self-control is still developing, while notifications, likes and comments stimulate the brain's reward system. Jennifer Katzenstein, director of psychology and neuropsychology at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, adds that likes arrive unpredictably, and variable reinforcement is "the most reinforcing kind" . A child never knows which refresh will bring the message they want, so they keep checking. Narayana Health, the Indian hospital group, also warns parents against using the phone as a reward or a distraction. What are the signs of phone addiction in children? The clearest sign of phone addiction in a child is lost control: the child tries to stop, or is asked to stop, and cannot. Fineberg's test is whether a child can control when they start and stop, not how many minutes they log, so no hours-per-day cut-off defines the problem. Watch for a cluster of these behaviours rather than any single one: Distress when the phone goes. Child psychiatrist Clifford Sussman notes that children may respond to cravings with irritability, defiance or aggression, and go to great lengths to get back on their screens. Narayana Health adds that limiting gadgets can bring low appetite and temper tantrums, which parents can plan for rather than fear. Sleep slipping. Psychiatrists flag secret late-night use, especially when a child carries on despite headaches or poor sleep. A study in the Journal of Youth Studies, reported by Providence in 2017, found that 1 in 5 young people aged 12 to 15 lose sleep to night-time phone use; the study's country is not stated, and it is not Indian data. Other interests fading. Hobbies, sport and face-to-face time with family and friends drop away, and grades start to slide. Fineberg describes this as neglecting sleep, education and relationships despite the harm. Secrecy and physical complaints. Medical News Today lists secrecy about phone activity alongside eyestrain, headaches, and neck and back pain. These have many causes, so treat them as prompts for a conversation, not proof. One or two of these signs may not indicate a problem, Medical News Today cautions; the concern is several behaviours appearing consistently. If a child cannot function without the phone and home steps are not helping, Nicklaus Children's Hospital advises consulting a professional, which in India means a child psychologist or paediatrician. How do I reduce my child's mobile addiction at home? To reduce a child's mobile addiction, set fixed phone-free times, fill them with something the child enjoys, and follow the same rules yourself. The best outcome evidence so far is an association: US research from the ABCD Study found that parental monitoring and limits are linked to lower problematic phone use in early adolescents. Clinicians build on that with steps like these, introduced in roughly this order: Write a family media plan. Narayana Health recommends a written plan as a structured starting point. Paediatrician Jason Nagata suggests it set screen-free times and zones, such as bedrooms and mealtimes. Keep meals and the hour before bed phone-free. Narayana Health advises no phones at mealtimes and no TV or phone before sleep, as part of a set schedule. The Cureus review links phone use before bed to later sleep onset and shorter, poorer sleep in 5- to 18-year-olds, and points to blue light suppressing melatonin as a main reason. Put homework and chores before screen time. Narayana Health suggests phone time come after studying and housework. Phone time then has an earned place in the day, not an open-ended one. Change the trigger moments. Notice when your child habitually reaches for the phone, such as straight after school, and swap in a different activity at that time. A psychologist presenting the "BATS" approach for Flinto Parenting names four levers: tolerate boredom, offer alternatives, change the timing and build support at home. Schedule something enjoyable straight after screen time. Family coach Elaine Uskoski suggests booking an off-screen activity for the moment screen time ends, so the cut-off happens naturally. A game of carrom beats "switch it off now" with nothing to follow. Start small and build up. Nicklaus Children's Hospital suggests moving the phone out of the bedroom at night, then 30 minutes unplugged after school, then working up to a half or full tech-free day each week. Each step is small enough to win. Follow the rules yourself. Narayana Health points out that children mimic their parents' habits. Some parenting experts suggest a family "e-fast", for example two hours when every adult and child puts their gadgets away. Plan for resistance. Children rarely share their parents' motivation to cut back, and Sussman cautions that rules will be broken, so set rewards and reasonable consequences in advance. Present phone-free time as protection, not punishment. Should you take the phone away completely? For most families, cutting down works better than cutting off. Narayana Health advises against total abstinence, noting the smartphone's educational value and calling moderation "the key". A widely shared parent's essay on FamilyLife describes the opposite approach, in which the author's son's outbursts and constant asking for the phone faded within about two weeks of removing games. That is one family's experience, not evidence, and the routine in this guide limits recreational use at set times rather than cutting off schoolwork. Do mobile-free schools help children? Mobile-free schools show promising results for attention, learning and, in one national study, girls' mental health, but the evidence is mostly correlational and none of it comes from Indian schools. Advocates define a phone-free school as one where all personal devices are switched off and stored "from first bell to last bell". Most of the studies below reach parents second-hand through the Smartphone Free Childhood campaign, so read each with its caveat. The Brain Drain result matters most for a school day: a phone competes for attention even unused in a pocket, as Jon Haidt describes . In 2023 UNESCO recommended restricting smartphones in schools to reduce disruption and improve learning, and in May 2024 a UK parliamentary committee said a ban "can have a positive impact" on children's mental health and educational outcomes. School administrators told Haidt that parents' wish to reach their children during the day is a main obstacle, and a school office phone for urgent messages is one common answer. GRJIS builds the mobile-free routine into the whole boarding day At Guru Rajendra Jain International School (GRJIS), a residential campus at Mohankheda in Dhar district, near Indore, a mobile-free day is built into the timetable. Boarders do not bring mobile phones. Smartwatches, earphones, gaming consoles, televisions and laptops are also on the school's restricted list, and the only watch allowed is analogue. An alarm clock is on the packing list, so each morning starts without a screen in the room. GRJIS describes itself as a modern-day Gurukul that mentors rather than lectures, and a mentor needs the child's attention. Before admission, families meet the school counsellor to talk through the child's readiness for boarding life, the right moment to ask how and when parents can speak with their child. That shared approach matches what researchers ask for: the Cureus review calls for parents, educators and health professionals to act together on children's phone use. GRJIS does not claim measured outcomes for its policy. What the school offers is a structure in which the expert-recommended habits are the default, not a nightly negotiation. Where does the evidence on mobile-free routines run thin? No controlled trial cited in this guide measures whether a home mobile-free routine reduces problematic use. Even specialists say there is still a "critical scarcity of reliable scientific evidence" on many questions about digital addiction, as Fineberg told Children and Screens. Nicklaus Children's Hospital expects less screen time to free up room for exercise, sleep and family time, but cites no trial measuring it. Two gaps matter most for Indian parents. Every figure quoted here comes from the US, UK, Scotland, Norway or an unnamed country, and even the 2026 Cureus review, though co-written at Era University in Lucknow, draws on no Indian sample. Some parents also question the "addiction" label itself, arguing that constant requests for the phone often signal a need for more attention and clearer boundaries. The remedy that critique points to, more time together and clearer structure, is the same routine. Frequently asked questions

Mobile Addiction in Children: How a Mobile-Free Routine…

Mobile Addiction in Children: How a Mobile-Free Routine Helps

Mobile addiction is not a formal diagnosis. As of late 2023, the WHO's ICD-11 recognised only gaming disorder and gambling disorder as specific behavioural addictions. Doctors still describe children becoming preoccupied with phones in ways that harm sleep, study and friendships, so many clinicians use the term problematic mobile phone use instead.

Is mobile addiction a real medical condition in children?

No number of hours defines phone addiction in a child. Psychiatrist Naomi Fineberg says the key sign is whether the child can control when they start and stop. Parents should look for several warning signs together over time, such as lost control, distress without the phone, poor sleep and fading interest in other activities.

How many hours of screen time count as phone addiction?

Most families do better cutting down a child's phone use than cutting it off. Narayana Health advises against total abstinence because smartphones have educational value, and favours moderation. A mobile-free routine sets phone-free times for meals, homework and bedtime instead of banning the phone outright, which keeps schoolwork possible and makes the rules easier to hold.

Should I take my child's phone away completely?

Mobile-free schools are linked to better exam results in some studies. A 2024 Policy Exchange report found smartphone-free schools in England had GCSE results 1 to 2 grades higher, though this shows association rather than proof of cause. None of the studies on mobile-free schools cited in this guide were carried out in Indian schools.

Do mobile-free schools improve exam results?

GRJIS boarders do not keep mobile phones on campus. Mobile phones, smartwatches, earphones, gaming consoles and laptops are on the school's restricted items list, and only analogue watches are allowed. Parents who want to know how to stay in touch with their child at GRJIS should ask during the campus visit or the counsellor meeting.

Can GRJIS boarders keep a mobile phone on campus?

See a child psychologist or paediatrician if your child cannot function without the phone and home routines are not helping. Nicklaus Children's Hospital gives this advice for children whose emotional regulation is not improving with home steps. A professional can also check whether anxiety, attention difficulties or another cause sits behind the behaviour.

When to Pull Your Child Out of Boarding School

Can your children be safe in a boarding school? - Quora

Which is a good boarding school for girls?

Is boarding school safe for girls?

What should I check in a girls hostel at a school?

TL;DR: A good girls' boarding school is one whose hostel security, night supervision, health care and parent communication you can check for yourself, and whose routine suits your daughter. We know of no published safety data or independent ranking for girls' boarding schools in India, so a parent's own checks carry the weight. Boarding School Review advises families to weigh residential life, student wellness, safety, weekend programming and communication with families alongside academics. Before you sign, visit the girls' hostel, meet the warden, ask who is on duty overnight, and get the safety, medical and refund policies in writing. A good girls' boarding school passes your checks and suits your daughter A girls' boarding school is a school where girls live on campus during term under the school's supervision, either at an all-girls school or in a separate girls' hostel within a co-educational school. There is no list that tells you which one is "good" in India, and we will not offer a ranking here. What does hold up is a set of checks that work at any school: who supervises the girls, how the hostel is secured, what happens when a girl falls ill, and how the school talks to families. Prestige is a weak guide on its own. Boarding School Review cautions that the most prestigious school is not necessarily where an individual student will do best. Fit decides more than reputation, and fit is something only a parent who knows the child can judge. Start with two filters before you visit anywhere. Work out whether you can meet the full fees for every year your daughter will board, and how quickly you could reach the campus by road, rail or air in an emergency. Schools that pass both filters are the ones worth judging on pastoral care and the boarding environment, which is where the real differences lie. Guru Rajendra Jain International School (GRJIS), at Mohankheda in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, is fully co-educational, with separate hostels for girls and boys. GRJIS is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and reports a student-teacher ratio of 10:1. A family choosing GRJIS is therefore choosing a girls' hostel inside a mixed school, and every check below applies to it as much as to an all-girls school. That fits Boarding School Review's view that a single-sex setting is not automatically the right choice for every girl. Is boarding school safe for girls? Safety is a set of systems you can test No published figure measures how safe girls are in Indian boarding schools, and we know of no incident data a parent could use to compare one campus with another. Safety at a boarding school is a set of systems a parent can see and test: who can enter, who is awake at night, who has been checked, and where a girl takes a complaint. During term, the school supervises your daughter in your place. Ask it to set out in writing what supervision it takes on and which child-protection guidelines it follows, and to show you its written child protection policy rather than describe it. Entry, visitors and outings Hostel360, an Indian accommodation platform , recommends a single controlled entry point, a log of every visitor with name, phone number, purpose and time in and out, and a fixed meeting area that visitors do not go beyond. Its checklist is written for college hostels and PGs rather than school boarding, but the logic carries over. At GRJIS, parents carry a Parent ID Card, sign the visitor's register on entry and exit, and meet students in the designated reception area, while access to dormitories is restricted. Campus gates stay locked to outsiders outside office hours, unannounced entry is not permitted, and every package is checked before it enters the hostel. Outings matter as much as visits. Find out who may collect your daughter, how the school confirms that person's identity, and whether every exit is signed out. Students at GRJIS go home with their parents or guardians on the fourth Saturday of each month and report back by 5:30 PM the following day. Night supervision The most telling hostel question is who is in the building at 2 AM. Hostel360 advises checking that a female warden lives on the premises, because "available on call" is not the same as being physically present. Ask by name who handles emergencies overnight and how a girl reaches that person. GRJIS runs hostel hours from 5:30 AM to 10:30 PM, with no activity after lights out, and wardens escort new boarders to their rooms at orientation. Staff checks and complaint routes Every adult with access to a girls' hostel should have been checked, including guards, cooks and cleaning staff. Find out whether each one has police verification and references, and whether the check is ever repeated. Next, request the written policy on harassment complaints: Hostel360 warns against a vague "we take safety seriously" and looks for an actual document with a defined process and a confidential way to report. A girl should be able to raise a concern with a woman staff member without the whole hostel knowing. Inside the girls' hostel: what to look at room by room Walk the actual girls' hostel, not just the showcase rooms. Boarding School Review recommends visiting campuses and speaking with current students and faculty before deciding, and in a hostel that means seeing the rooms girls sleep in, the washrooms they use and the exits they would run to. If the school allows it, an evening visit shows how supervision works once the day staff have left. Fire safety needs its own few minutes. A Fire No Objection Certificate (Fire NOC) is the fire-safety clearance a local fire department issues for a building, and parents can ask to see it. Hostel360's checklist adds in-date extinguishers on every floor, working smoke detectors, two unblocked exits and an evacuation map on each floor. Washrooms deserve the same attention: Pee Safe, a hygiene brand writing about college hostels , notes that hostel washrooms do not always have proper sanitary disposal bins or reliable water. At GRJIS, ten girls share each room, and the boys' hostel follows the same pattern. Whatever the number a school gives, see the room for yourself. Health care, food and pastoral care decide how a girl settles Homesickness is the part parents worry about most. Boarding School Review notes that a difficult first term does not automatically mean a child should leave, since many students need time to adjust to dorm routines, shared living and separation from home. Find out how house staff spot a girl who has gone quiet, whether older girls mentor new boarders, and whether a confidential counsellor is available. A sick girl at 11 PM tests a school's medical arrangements more than any brochure does. Ask who staffs the medical room and at what hours, which hospital the school uses in an emergency, and how regular medication, such as insulin that must be refrigerated, is stored and given. GRJIS has an on-campus Medical Room and makes full disclosure of a student's medical history and allergies mandatory at admission. For food, look at the weekly menu, who plans it and how the kitchen handles allergies; GRJIS shares its weekly food menu with families before they apply. GRJIS allows one ten-minute audio call a week, to a person the parents nominate, on a schedule shared in advance. Families should know that limit before applying and talk it through with their daughter. Some former boarders, writing on Quora , describe feeling extra pressure because of the fees and finding the rules restrictive; that is personal experience rather than evidence, but it is a fair conversation to have at home. Routine, sports and leadership fill the hours outside class A boarding girl's day runs from waking to lights out, so in practice the routine is the school. Request the full daily timetable, weekends included, and look at how much of it is supervised study, sport, free time and rest. At GRJIS the hostel day runs from 5:30 AM to 10:30 PM and combines academic study, yoga and the habits of independent hostel life. The GRJIS campus covers 9 acres, 5 of them play area. Facilities include swimming, lawn tennis, a running track, a cricket practice net, badminton, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, football, handball, kho-kho and pickleball, along with music and dance rooms, an art and craft studio and a 7,000 sq ft library. Leadership is harder to see on a tour. Ask which positions of responsibility girls hold in the hostel and in school, who chooses them, and whether girls captain teams and lead events as often as boys do at a co-educational school. GRJIS adds personal career coaching, Life Readiness workshops, stream-specific career guidance and university short-listing to its academic programme. The share of students who board also shapes evenings and weekends, which feel different at a mostly residential school than where boarders are a small group among day students. Parents should get communication rules and policies in writing Boarding School Review says boarding schools should have clear procedures for crisis response, parent notification, supervision and outside referrals. Ask who calls you, how fast and from which number when your daughter is ill or hurt, and who your single point of contact is for everyday questions. You should also know whether you will receive reports on her wellbeing as well as her marks. GRJIS takes parent contact during office hours, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and sets aside the last Sunday of each month, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, for visits; a visit at any other time needs prior permission from the Principal or the Warden. Read the policies before admission, not after a problem starts. The same Boarding School Review guidance points families to the enrolment contract, the fee refund policy, the medical leave policy and the disciplinary rules. GRJIS states its terms plainly: fees other than the security deposit are non-refundable, and withdrawal needs two to three months' written notice, with a fee penalty if that notice is not given. Firm terms like these are a reason to decide carefully rather than quickly, and current fees and admission dates are on the GRJIS admissions page. Questions parents ask about girls' boarding schools

Girls Boarding School: What Parents Should Check Before Choosing One

A good boarding school for girls in India is one that shows you, rather than tells you, how it supervises girls at night, secures the hostel, handles illness and keeps parents informed. We know of no independent ranking of Indian girls' boarding schools that parents can rely on, so a campus visit and written policies matter more than any list.

Which is a good boarding school for girls in India?

A co-educational school with a separate girls' hostel can suit a girl as well as an all-girls boarding school, because supervision and care in the hostel matter more than the label. Boarding School Review notes that a single-sex setting is not automatically right for every girl, and that personality, goals and preferred social setting should decide.

Is a co-ed school with a separate girls' hostel as good as an all-girls boarding school?

Boarding school can be safe for girls when the school runs systems a parent can verify: controlled entry, a visitor register, a warden present overnight, background-checked staff and a confidential complaint route. No published Indian data measures boarding school safety, so judge each school on these checks rather than on its own claim to be safe.

In a girls' hostel at a school, check how many girls share a room, whether each has lockable storage, the washrooms' water supply and sanitary disposal, fire extinguishers and two clear exits, and who sleeps in the building at night. Ask for the Fire NOC and the written child protection policy, and see the rooms girls actually use.

What should I check in a girls' hostel at a school?

The simplest test of hostel CCTV is to ask the warden to show you the previous day's footage. Hostel360 suggests this check because cameras can be mounted for show without recording. Also ask who reviews hostel CCTV footage, how long it is kept, and which entrances and corridors the cameras cover.

How do I know if a hostel's CCTV is actually working?

Signs that boarding school is not working include ongoing anxiety, a sharp fall in grades, withdrawal from friends, refusal to return after breaks and any report of bullying or harassment. A hard first term alone is common, but Boarding School Review says threats of self-harm, sexual misconduct or medical neglect call for immediate professional help.

What is value education?

Why is value education important for students?

How do schools teach values and sanskar?

TL;DR: Value education is the planned teaching of the principles, ethics and moral values that guide how children behave towards other people. In Indian homes and schools, the same work often goes by the name sanskar: the habits and impressions a child builds through repeated daily practice. Values reach children mainly through their teachers' conduct and through daily routines, which is why value education belongs in the whole school day rather than one period a week. The evidence base is thin: a 2004 Australian review by Fyffe, Hay and Palmer found that little had been documented about whether school values programmes work, especially in primary schools , and no published figure exists for India. Parents should therefore judge a school's value education by how its adults behave every day, not by the slogans on its walls. What is value education? Value education is the part of schooling that teaches children how to live well with other people: what is right, what is fair, and how to treat someone who can do nothing for you in return. Every school does some of it, planned or not, because children watch how adults behave. Majumder draws a useful line between value education and the rest of the timetable. Where subjects such as maths, science and languages build knowledge, value education aims to build character, responsibility, empathy and respect for others. A child can score full marks in science and still not know how to apologise, share credit or stand up for a classmate who is being teased. The vocabulary is loose, and parents meet several names for the same thing. Researchers Fyffe, Hay and Palmer note that value education overlaps with moral education and character education, and that values, ethics and morals are often used interchangeably . In practice the three run together, so the label a school uses matters less than what it does. Sanskar is how Indian families describe values built through practice Sanskar is the word Indian families use for the values, manners and habits a child absorbs at home: touching the feet of elders, greeting guests, sharing food, keeping one's word. Drawing on Swami Vivekananda, Majumder describes character as habits formed through repeated actions, shaped by Samskaras, the deep impressions built up over a lifetime . That idea has a practical consequence. If character is a set of habits, then a child learns sanskar the way they learn to ride a bicycle: by doing it many times, with an adult nearby. Many Indian parents put it more simply, holding that values are shown, not taught. A child who sees a parent fold hands to greet the watchman learns more about respect than one who hears a lecture on it. Schools do not carry this work alone. Sanskar begins at home, continues through grandparents and neighbours, and a school's job is to keep the practice going for the hours a child spends with us. In a classroom of children from many faiths and family customs, that practice has to be inclusive: an explainer from the education channel Mtutor frames good value education as universal across caste and religion, and built on discussion and lived experience rather than rote rules . At Guru Rajendra Jain International School (GRJIS) we express this in one line, 'Sanskar Se Saflata Tak': from sanskar to success. The line says that character is the ground success grows from, rather than a separate subject competing with marks for time. Why does value education matter for children as they grow? The strongest argument for value education concerns what education is for. UNESCO describes education as a lifelong process that equips learners with "knowledge, skills and values" , and through which societies pass values on across generations. On that view, a school that teaches only knowledge is doing only part of its job. The World Bank's education strategy makes a related point, naming socioemotional skills, alongside literacy and numeracy, as building blocks for all other skills . Socioemotional skills are not identical to values, but managing anger, cooperating and seeing another person's view sit close to what Indian families call sanskar. For a growing child, values show up in three stages that parents can watch for. Conduct in the early years. Young children learn values as habits: waiting for a turn, saying thank you, returning what they borrow. These habits look small, but they are the first place a child practises putting someone else's needs next to their own. We build them through repetition and gentle correction. Respect in the middle years. Between roughly eight and twelve, children start to judge fairness for themselves. Value education at this stage means discussing real situations: a friend copying homework, a classmate left out of a game, a marking error that happens to favour them. The aim is a child who can explain why something is right, not only recite that it is. Leadership in adolescence. Teenagers take on responsibility through team captaincy, prefect duties and, in a boarding school, care of younger students. Values decide whether they use a position to serve others or to gain advantage. A teenager who has practised honesty and responsibility for years has something to draw on when those choices arrive. These are aims, and parents deserve a straight account of the evidence behind them. No published figure exists for the effect of value education on Indian children's behaviour, wellbeing or academic results. That gap does not make value education optional. It means a school should explain what it does and why, and should not promise parents a measured result it cannot show. Schools teach values and sanskar through example, lessons and daily culture Schools teach values through several channels at once, and the teacher's own conduct sits underneath all of them. Majumder lists direct, indirect, incidental, conceptual and biographical methods and treats the whole curriculum as a source of values. These are the channels parents are most likely to meet. The teacher's example. Children pick up values from how teachers behave as well as from what they teach. The editors of the Education in Human Values (EHV) framework, which organises value education around Truth, Right Action, Peace, Love and Non-violence, go further and treat the teacher's own example of living the values as the most important part of teaching them . A teacher who admits a mistake in front of the class teaches honesty more clearly than any chart on the wall. Values woven into every subject. The same editors argue that values belong inside everyday lessons, carried by well-chosen examples and the teaching moments that arise, without any change to the syllabus. A Class 7 history lesson on a freedom fighter is biographical value education. So is a science practical where a group must share one microscope fairly. Discussion of real dilemmas. Commonly described strategies include classroom debate on moral questions, challenging harmful attitudes without labelling individuals, and emphasising that people can change . The goal is a child who can give reasons for a value, because reasons travel to situations no lesson anticipated. School culture and ritual. Education writers Tarlinton and O'Shea argue that schools pass on values through their teachers, their expected standards of behaviour and their rituals , not just through formal lessons. In an Indian school this means the morning assembly, how festivals and national days are observed, how students speak to support staff, and how the school marks both success and loss. Service and responsibility. Values become real when a child is responsible for something beyond their own marks: a garden bed, a younger student, a community project. Duties of this kind turn respect and responsibility from words into routines. Can teaching values backfire? Some methods of teaching values can backfire, and a school that takes values seriously should know what its critics argue. Writing about US schools in the mid-1990s, education writer Alfie Kohn argued that much character education drills children to do as they're told instead of encouraging them to reflect on values . Kohn warned that rotating a 'value of the week' is unlikely to produce a lasting commitment to any of the values, and that awards such as Student of the Month can teach children to see classmates as rivals. He also pointed to research suggesting that rewarding children for kind behaviour can make them less likely to see themselves as kind. Kohn's critique describes American programmes, and he reports the underlying studies second-hand, so read it as a caution rather than a finding about Indian schools. The caution still earns its place. Prizes for good behaviour and slogans of the week are easy to adopt and easy to mistake for value education. Practical barriers matter too. Even supporters admit that values education often stays at surface level when teachers lack time or clarity about what and how to teach . Majumder names three obstacles that apply directly in India: classrooms where children come from different cultural and religious backgrounds, teachers without specific training, and exam pressure that pushes values education down the priority list. Researchers also note continuing disagreement about which values to teach, how to teach them and how to evaluate the results. Our answer is to teach a small set of shared values openly, explain the reasons behind them, and invite students to question and discuss them. GRJIS puts 'Sanskar Se Saflata Tak' into daily practice Guru Rajendra Jain International School (GRJIS) is a CBSE-affiliated residential school at Mohankheda in Dhar district, near Indore, Madhya Pradesh. GRJIS describes itself as a Modern-Day Gurukul: a peaceful, disciplined and safe campus where Indian values are celebrated every day alongside modern academic preparation. Values at GRJIS live in the timetable. The daily routine moves between serious academic study, yoga and the small disciplines of hostel life, where students learn to look after their own things, share a room and keep to a schedule without a parent prompting them. In a residential school, sanskar is how the day runs from the morning bell to the evening. Teachers at GRJIS mentor rather than lecture. We believe every child is a unique Ratna waiting for the right polish, and GRJIS reports a student-teacher ratio of 10:1, which gives each teacher room to know students as individuals. That ratio matters for value education, because a teacher's example only works when a child is close enough to see it. Every new student's orientation at GRJIS covers the importance of community service and taking part in school events, and every family signs a code of conduct. The code asks parents to model the values we teach: speak politely to all staff, including security and housekeeping, never criticise a teacher in front of students, and offer no tips or gifts to staff. A child who sees a parent thank the housekeeping staff learns respect without a lesson. GRJIS does not promise that values can be scored like a subject. What we commit to is the daily practice: adults who live the values, routines that build them, and a partnership with parents that keeps home and school consistent. What do parents ask about value education? What is value education in simple words? Value education is the teaching of the principles, ethics and moral values that guide how a person behaves towards others. In simple words, value education teaches children what is right, what is fair and how to treat people well. Schools deliver value education through lessons, daily routines and, above all, the example their teachers set. Why is value education important for students? Value education is important because schooling passes on values as well as knowledge, and character shapes how students use what they learn. UNESCO describes education as equipping learners with knowledge, skills and values. Value education aims to build honesty, responsibility and respect, though no published figure exists for its effect on Indian students. How do schools teach values to children? Schools teach values through the teacher's own example, through lessons that weave values into every subject, through stories, reflection and discussion, and through school culture such as assemblies and festivals. Service tasks and responsibilities give children practice. Many educators who write on value education argue that it belongs in the whole school day rather than one weekly period. Does value education actually change how children behave? No published figure exists for the effect of value education on children's behaviour in India. A 2004 Australian review found that little had been documented about whether school values programmes work. Value education is best treated as an aim pursued through daily practice, and parents can reasonably ask any school how it puts values into practice each day. How can parents support value education at home? Parents support value education by living the values they want their children to learn, since many Indian families hold that values are shown, not taught. Keep routines consistent with school, speak respectfully about teachers in front of children, and talk through real dilemmas at the dinner table. Children get a clearer message when home and school agree. What does 'Sanskar Se Saflata Tak' mean at GRJIS? 'Sanskar Se Saflata Tak' means "from sanskar to success", and it is the guiding line of Guru Rajendra Jain International School (GRJIS) near Indore. The line expresses the GRJIS belief that character is the foundation for success, which is why GRJIS blends Bhartiya Sanskar with modern academic preparation in a residential, gurukul-style daily routine.

Which are the boarding schools in Indore?

Is there a good hostel school in Indore?

How do I choose a boarding school near Indore?

TL;DR: Boarding schools in Indore include day-cum-boarding schools inside the city and fully residential campuses in the wider Indore region, and no published official count of them exists. The fair way to compare boarding schools in Indore is on things you can check yourself: who supervises the hostel at night, how many children share a room, how often your child can call home, what the fee covers and what happens if you withdraw. Guru Rajendra Jain International School (GRJIS), a CBSE boarding school for Grades 4 to 12 at Mohankheda in Dhar district, reports a 10:1 student-teacher ratio and allows boarders one scheduled 10-minute call home each week. Visit on a working day, get every policy in writing, and weigh your child's readiness above any school's reputation. Which boarding schools are there in Indore? Indore's boarding options fall into two groups: day-cum-boarding schools in the city and residential campuses in the wider Indore region. A day-cum-boarding school is a school that teaches day scholars and boarders in the same classrooms, with only the boarders living on campus. That difference shapes a boarder's evenings and weekends, because most classmates go home after school, so ask every school which model it runs. No published official count of boarding schools in Indore exists. Online directories each keep their own list, their totals differ, and some lists filed under Indore include schools in other Madhya Pradesh cities. The board narrows the field fastest. Indian boarding schools follow CBSE, CISCE, IB, Cambridge or other curricula, as an anonymous parents' guide published on SlideShare sets out, and that choice decides your child's textbooks, assessment style and board examinations. Settle the board and the entry class first; a ranking cannot do that work for you. Guru Rajendra Jain International School (GRJIS) is one residential option in the region. Affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, GRJIS reports its affiliation code as 1030981 and takes boarders from Grades 4 to 12 on a 9-acre campus at Mohankheda Jain Tirth, Rajgarh, in Dhar district. This guide uses GRJIS as a worked example of what to ask any school. What does a typical boarding day involve? A boarding day is a fixed timetable that runs from wake-up to lights-out, and a hostel's quality shows in how well that timetable is kept. At GRJIS, hostel hours run from 5:30 am to 10:30 pm, and the boarding policy requires every student to keep quiet hours and lights-out strictly. Between those two points sit classes, yoga, study, sport and co-curricular periods. GRJIS gives parents its broad timetable, co-curricular timetable and weekly food menu before they apply. Ask every school on your shortlist for the same three documents, because a written timetable shows you where study, rest and play actually fall. Hostel rooms and food GRJIS houses 10 boys or 10 girls per room, with boys and girls in separate rooms. A shared room of that size gives a young boarder constant company and less privacy, so look at a real room on your visit, count the beds and check the storage. Eat a meal in the dining hall too; a printed menu tells you less than a plate at lunch. An imprest fund is a deposit that a boarding school holds on a child's behalf to pay for small running costs such as laundry, medical needs and personal essentials. At GRJIS, the unspent imprest balance is refunded on an actual basis after expenses. How much contact will you have with your child? Contact with home is set by a school's written policy, and that policy is worth reading before you apply. GRJIS allows one audio call a week, 10 minutes long, on a schedule given to parents in advance, to the person the parents nominated when they applied. Unscheduled call requests from parents, local guardians or students are not accepted. A predictable call gives a boarder's week a shape, but for a parent used to daily conversations it is a real adjustment, so decide now whether it suits your family. Entry to the GRJIS hostel is restricted to parents and guardians, and every package sent to the hostel is checked first. Weekends and leave are where you need specifics in writing. Boarding School Review, a US publisher, advises parents to ask how a school handles travel, medical leave and family emergencies, because fixed term calendars and institutional policies may limit flexibility . The same questions apply in Indore: which weekends boarders spend on campus, how home leave works, and who may collect your child. Safety in a hostel depends on supervision you can verify Hostel safety is the set of people, routines and rules that protect a child after classes end, and cameras and boundary walls are only its outer layer. A hostel is only as safe as the adults on duty after lights-out. Ask who is on duty at night, whether that person lives on campus, and how many boarders one warden looks after. GRJIS reports a 10:1 student-teacher ratio, but that is a classroom figure, so ask every school, GRJIS included, for the hostel figure separately. Medical care is the second safety question. GRJIS has a medical room on campus and requires parents to disclose the child's full medical history and allergies, and withholding that information is grounds for cancelling admission. Complete any school's medical declaration in full, because the people caring for your child at night can only act on what they know. Read every declaration before you sign. GRJIS asks parents to sign hostel rules, a medical declaration and a liability waiver for injuries during sport, excursions and campus activities, among others; signing them unread is the mistake. How do you compare boarding schools near Indore fairly? Comparing boarding schools fairly means putting the same questions to each school and getting the answers in writing. DoonEdge Consultants, an admissions consultancy, points parents to board type, campus culture, fees, location and alumni network as the main factors for the 2026-27 admission cycle. For a boarder, the hostel questions carry equal weight, so work through these steps in order. Fix the board and entry class. Choose the board that fits your child's plans, then check which classes each school admits boarders into. A school that teaches from the early years may take boarders only from a later class. Confirm the location and the hostel. Check the travel time from your home, since distance decides how quickly you can reach your child in an emergency. Then confirm that the hostel runs for your child's grade this year. Visit on a working day. See a room, the dining hall and the medical room, and talk to the person who would supervise your child. GRJIS builds this into admission with a booked campus visit, a meeting with the school counsellor and a guided tour of the academic, boarding, sports and dining areas. Get the full cost in writing. The same SlideShare guide lists tuition, boarding charges, uniforms, transport, activities and medical expenses as the costs to understand. Fee figures on directory sites are approximate, so ask each school for its current schedule and multiply it across every year your child will board. Check the refund and withdrawal terms. Read the refund policy before you read the brochure. At GRJIS, application, registration, admission, term, book and uniform fees are non-refundable, the security deposit is refunded after a full no-dues clearance, and a written request for a Transfer Certificate is due at least two months before the new session. Agree contact and leave rules. Ask for the calling schedule, visiting rules and leave policy before you pay anything. The SlideShare guide also advises reviewing a school's rules on communication, leave, technology and visitors before admission. For current admission dates and the GRJIS fee structure, contact the admissions team at admissions@grjis.com or through grjis.com . Is your child ready for boarding? Readiness for boarding depends on a child's emotional maturity, independence and ability to cope with a shared routine as much as on marks. At GRJIS, the counsellor meeting at the start of admission looks at the child's strengths, personality, learning style and overall readiness for boarding life. Expect an adjustment period. Some homesickness in the first weeks is common in new boarders, especially younger ones, and what matters is whether the child settles over the term. Ask each school what support new boarders get in their first term. Boarding has critics too. Some argue that early separation from family can lead to anxiety, emotional suppression or loneliness, problems sometimes grouped under the term "boarding school syndrome" , according to Boarding School Review, which names no studies. The evidence either way is thin, which is one more reason to put your child's readiness above any school's prestige. Be wary of any school, ours included, that credits its results to boarding alone. Boarding School Review also notes that it is hard to separate the effect of boarding from the motivated, resourceful families who choose it . GRJIS offers stream-specific career guidance, university short-listing and life-readiness workshops, and its boarding policy states plainly that enrolment does not guarantee promotion. Boarding Schools in Indore: A Parent's Guide

Boarding schools in Indore include day-cum-boarding schools in the city and residential schools in the wider Indore region, across CBSE and other boards. No published official count exists, and directory lists differ from site to site. Guru Rajendra Jain International School (GRJIS) is a CBSE boarding school for Grades 4 to 12 at Mohankheda in Dhar district.

A good hostel school in Indore is one whose supervision, rooms, food, medical care and contact rules you have checked in person and in writing. We know of no independent inspection ratings for Indore hostels, so judge each school on those criteria during a visit on a normal working day.

To choose a boarding school near Indore, fix the board and entry class first, then confirm the school's location and that its hostel runs for your child's grade. Visit on a working day, get the full fee and refund terms in writing, and agree calling, leave and emergency rules before you apply.

There is no single right age to start boarding. Readiness for boarding depends on a child's emotional maturity, independence and ability to manage a shared routine, as well as on the entry classes a school offers. GRJIS takes boarders from Grade 4 and assesses each child's readiness for boarding life in a counsellor meeting.

What is the right age to start boarding?

Boarding school fee refunds depend on each school's written policy, so read that policy before paying. At GRJIS, application, registration, admission, term, book and uniform fees are non-refundable, while the security deposit is refunded after a no-dues clearance and the unspent imprest balance is returned after expenses.

Are boarding school fees refundable?

No. Boarding school does not guarantee better results, and as Boarding School Review notes, it is hard to separate the effect of boarding from the motivated families who choose it. A structured boarding routine supports regular study, but results still depend on the child, the teaching and the fit between them.

Why is discipline important in student life?

How can I make my child more disciplined?

What is a good daily routine for a student?

TL;DR: The importance of discipline in student life is practical: steady study, healthy sleep and good character all depend on a child's ability to manage their own time, attention and choices. A daily routine builds that discipline by fixing times for study, sport, meals and rest, so that good choices turn into habits instead of daily arguments. No published research we reviewed measures whether a daily routine builds discipline in Indian schoolchildren, so treat this as practitioner guidance rather than a proven formula. The practical takeaway for parents is to agree a predictable routine with the child, keep expectations realistic and follow through calmly rather than harshly. What does discipline mean for a school-age child? Discipline in student life is the habit of choosing what needs doing over what feels easiest, and doing it without an adult having to insist each time. Many parents first meet the word as rules and punishment, but the version that lasts is internal: a child who sits down for the evening study hour because that is what the hour is for. Foundation For Excellence (FFE) , an India-focused scholarship charity, defined self-discipline in its April 2022 newsletter as "the ability to reject instant gratification and pleasure, in favour of some greater gain." The same newsletter splits discipline into an inner form, the capacity to tell right from wrong, and an outer form, following shared rules. Children usually meet the outer form first and grow the inner one over years. At Guru Rajendra Jain International School (GRJIS), we treat rule-following as the first stage and self-direction as the goal. A new boarder keeps to the timetable because the timetable is there. Over the years, the aim is a student who plans their own revision because they understand why it matters. Discipline matters in student life because it turns effort into habit The clearest payoff shows up in studies. FFE's newsletter makes the point that discipline helps a student maintain the regularity that subjects such as mathematics need , since maths is learnt through constant practice. A child who solves a few problems every evening carries the method forward; a child who skips a week meets the next chapter half-prepared. Regular study also removes the panic before exams. Shorelight , a US advisory service, notes in an undated guide that dedicated study time every day helps students avoid cramming at the last minute while staying fresh on the subject. The guide was written for college students in the US, but the logic holds for a Class 10 student facing board exams. Character is the second payoff. Phones, games and notifications compete for every free half hour of a student's day, and each one offers something pleasant right now. A disciplined student has practised saying "after my maths" often enough that it no longer takes a struggle. The evidence here is thinner than most articles admit. We found no published figure for India on how discipline or a daily routine changes students' marks, and the guidance available offers opinion and practice rather than measured outcomes. That is no reason to skip a routine, but it is a reason to judge one by what you see in your own child over a full term. Why do shouting and punishment fail to build discipline? UNICEF's parenting guidance , written with Professor Lucie Cluver of the University of Oxford, says repeated shouting and hitting "do not work and can do more harm than good in the long run." The same page links the "toxic stress" this creates to higher chances of outcomes including school dropout and depression, though it gives no figures or study citations for that list. Harsh punishment teaches a child to avoid getting caught, which is a different skill from managing themselves. Structure does the work that shouting cannot, because a predictable day removes most of the moments where conflict starts. When homework always follows the evening snack, there is little left to argue about. Predictable is different from rigid. A routine that breaks down the first time a cousin visits or a match runs late was too tight to begin with. Build in some slack for real life, and measure success by consistency across the week rather than perfection on every single day. A daily routine builds self-discipline through repetition A daily routine is a fixed, repeating order for the main activities of a child's day: waking, eating, studying, playing and sleeping. Its value lies in the repetition. Shorelight's guide puts the mechanism simply: activities repeated regularly eventually become habits, and sticking to the routine is itself an exercise in discipline. FFE's newsletter compresses the whole idea into one line: "Discipline creates habits, habits make routines, and routines become who you are daily." In practice, the routine does the deciding in advance. A child who knows that the hour after play is study time spends their willpower on the work rather than on the argument about when to start. Children settle into routines at different speeds, and no fixed number of days applies to every child. The routine starts as something adults hold in place, and the goal is a child who holds it alone. What is a good daily routine for a student? A good daily routine fixes the anchors of the day and leaves the rest flexible. Its anchors are wake-up time, meals, study, play or sport, and bedtime. The sample below is a template for a day scholar; adjust it for your child's age, school hours, commute and any tuition. For the clock times, popular advice gives a starting point. In an August 2025 video, the YouTube creator Time For Growth suggests waking between 5:30 and 7 a.m., keeping the phone away first thing, and using fresh morning time for the hardest subject. The same video recommends a 15 to 20 minute power nap and 20 to 30 minutes of evening movement. These are a creator's tips with no research cited, so use them as a template, not a rule. Bedtime deserves the most protection. Fix it so your child gets the full night's sleep recommended for their age, and count backwards from the wake-up time to set it. The GRJIS boarding day shows structure working without harshness GRJIS is a residential school at Mohankheda in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh, and its whole day is built on the anchors above. The hostel day runs from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and every student keeps the same quiet hours and lights-out time. GRJIS describes its timetable as designed to balance serious academic study, yoga and learning to be independent in hostel life, in its own words a day where "every hour counts." Fixed times reach beyond the classroom. Each boarder has one 10-minute audio call a week with the person the parents nominate, on a schedule shared with families in advance. Device and internet guidelines are explained to parents at orientation, so the rules on screens are clear before the first day rather than argued over later. The adults matter as much as the timetable. GRJIS says its teachers mentor rather than only lecture, and the school pairs scientific tests with personal career coaching so that each student studies towards something they understand. The school's stated belief is to blend modern success with Bhartiya Sanskar, and it asks parents to be partners in discipline rather than bystanders. No timetable guarantees a result, but a structured boarding day gives students a predictable frame they repeat every day of the term, which is exactly the repetition a habit needs. Families who want the detail can ask the admissions team for the broad timetable, the co-curricular timetable and the weekly food menu, which GRJIS shares with parents before they apply. How can I make my child more disciplined at home? You make a child more disciplined at home with clear structure, calm follow-through and a warm relationship, not with louder rules. We suggest these steps to parents, in this order. Build the routine with your child. UNICEF's guidance quotes Professor Cluver suggesting that parents sit older children down to agree the household dos and don'ts, and even the consequences for breaking them. A child who helped write the plan has a stake in keeping it. Say exactly what you want, and keep it realistic. Professor Cluver says telling a child what to do works better than telling them what not to do , and warns that "if you ask for the impossible, they are going to fail." "Maths homework at the desk before play" gives a child something to act on. "Stop wasting time" gives them nothing. Follow through calmly, every time. UNICEF's guidance treats consistency as central and advises keeping consequences realistic , for example taking a teenager's phone away for an hour rather than a week. A small consequence you actually apply teaches more than a large one you abandon on day two. Give short, phone-free one-on-one time. Professor Cluver suggests that even 5 to 20 minutes a day of focused time, with the TV and phone off, helps build a positive relationship. Discipline rests on that relationship, because children accept structure more readily from adults they feel close to. Model the routine yourself. Children copy what parents do far more than what parents say. If the rule is no phones at dinner, the parents' phones go in the drawer too. Start small and lengthen. A study block your child can finish beats an ambitious one abandoned halfway. Add time once the shorter block holds steadily, and praise the effort rather than only the marks. Importance of Discipline in Student Life, and How a Daily Routine Builds It

Discipline is important in student life because regular study, enough sleep and steady habits all depend on it. A disciplined student revises a little every day instead of cramming, keeps the phone in its place and finishes what they start. Discipline also shapes character, teaching a child to choose a longer-term gain over instant pleasure.

No, discipline is not the same as punishment. Punishment is an adult's reaction after something goes wrong, while discipline is a child's growing ability to manage their own time, behaviour and choices. UNICEF's parenting guidance warns that repeated shouting and hitting do more harm than good, so calm structure and clear expectations build discipline better.

Is discipline the same as punishment?

A good daily routine for a student fixes five anchors: wake-up time, meals, study blocks, play or sport, and bedtime. Everything else can flex around those anchors. The routine should suit the child's age, school hours and commute, and parents should build it together with the child rather than hand it down.

A student should wake up at the same time every day, early enough for a calm start before school. One widely viewed August 2025 study-routine video by the creator Time For Growth suggests waking between 5:30 and 7 a.m., but that window is a tip, not research, so fit it to the school timetable.

What time should a student wake up for studies?

No fixed number of days applies to every child getting used to a new routine. Children adjust at different speeds depending on age, temperament and the size of the change. Keep the new routine consistent, expect a few uneven weeks at the start, and judge a child's progress over a full school term rather than a single week.

How long does a child take to get used to a new routine?

A student's routine can relax on weekends and holidays, but the anchors should stay close to the school-day pattern. Keep wake-up time, meals and bedtime near their weekday slots and loosen the study blocks instead. A routine that collapses every Sunday has to be rebuilt every Monday, which costs the child more effort than it saves.

Should a student's routine change on weekends and holidays?

The simplest way to keep the phone out of study time is to keep the phone out of the study space. Agree a rule with your child, such as the phone charging in another room during the evening study block, and follow through calmly every time. Phone-free study works better when parents put their own phones away too.

How do I stop my child using the phone during study time?

A boarding school gives a child a fixed daily structure, but discipline still depends on how that structure is used and how the adults guide the child. At GRJIS, the hostel day runs from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. in a set rhythm of study, yoga and hostel life, with teachers mentoring students towards managing themselves.

What can I do after 12th commerce?

TL;DR: Class 11 commerce subjects in a CBSE school are usually Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics and English, plus one elective, and that elective slot is where the maths decision sits. Commerce without maths keeps B.Com , BBA, CA, CS and the integrated BA LLB open, according to Coursera's 2025 guide to commerce without maths , though eligibility for specific B.Com and BBA programmes varies by university. Keeping Mathematics or Applied Mathematics also protects the quantitative routes: economics honours, BMS, statistics, actuarial science and analytics. A student who has not firmly settled on CA, CS, CMA or law should take Applied Mathematics in Class 11, because it keeps the most routes open. Class 11 commerce has four core subjects and one elective slot The commerce stream is the senior secondary track, starting in Class 11, that prepares students for accounting, business, economics and finance. In most CBSE schools, a commerce student studies Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics and English, then adds one elective from the subjects the school runs. That makes five subjects for most students, and the fifth is where families face the maths question. Coursera's 2025 summary of the CBSE scheme describes the structure from the board's side: Hindi or English as the first subject, then three or more academic or skill-based electives, with Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics and Entrepreneurship as common commerce choices. Accountancy introduces accounting concepts and the full process, from journal and ledger entries through bank reconciliation and depreciation to the trial balance, and it rests on accurate arithmetic and percentages rather than calculus. Economics pairs introductory microeconomics with statistics, so a student who drops maths still works with data in Class 11. Business Studies and English complete the core. Which subjects can fill the elective slot? Mathematics is an elective in CBSE commerce, though some schools turn the slot into a required choice between Mathematics and another subject such as Informatics Practices. Coursera's guide lists further options that, depending on the school, include Informatics Practices, Legal Studies and Psychology, or skill subjects such as Banking and Marketing . Not every school offers all three maths positions (Core Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or no maths at all), so the first step is to ask your school for its actual subject list. Adding maths to commerce mainly changes which degrees stay open CBSE runs two separate maths subjects for Classes 11 and 12: Mathematics (code 041), often called Core Maths, and Applied Mathematics (code 241). No published figure shows how many Indian commerce students take Core Maths, Applied Maths or no maths. Students on Quora who have been through the choice describe commerce without maths as common and workable , but that is experience rather than data. Any claim that "most students" drop maths is a guess. Dropping maths does not remove numbers from commerce, because Accountancy, Economics and most professional and entrance exams still test calculation and data reading. What the student gives up is depth in algebra, calculus and probability. Where does commerce without maths lead after Class 12? Commerce without maths still leads to CA, CS, CMA, B.Com and law, because the professional accounting and company law routes do not depend on Class 12 maths. As currently reported, ICAI, ICSI and the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) do not list Class 11 or 12 Mathematics as an eligibility condition for CA, CS or CMA. Each institute publishes its own rules, so confirm them on its website in the year your child applies. SAGE University's course guide sets out the three courses. CA, run by ICAI, has three levels (Foundation, Intermediate and Final) and usually takes three to five years. CS, regulated by ICSI, focuses on corporate law, governance and compliance over about three to five years, while CMA has three levels over three to four years and centres on cost control and budgeting. Students can provisionally register for CA Foundation after passing Class 10, subject to ICAI's requirements. CA Foundation includes a Quantitative Aptitude paper on business mathematics, logical reasoning and statistics, so a student who drops maths gains study time now but has to learn those topics before that paper. B.Com , most BBA programmes and integrated law degrees (BA LLB and BBA LLB) are also open to commerce students without maths, subject to each university's or institution's own admission rules. Salary claims for commerce careers rest on thin evidence Most salary ranges in circulation come from universities recruiting students or from firms selling courses, with no stated method or sample, and they disagree with one another on CA pay. The most traceable figure is this one: That is a career-level average from self-reported data, not starting pay. Pay in every commerce career depends heavily on the employer and the skills a person builds, so treat any range as a rough signal and never as a promise. Which courses become harder to reach without Class 12 maths? Dropping maths narrows the quantitative undergraduate degrees first, and Delhi University shows the pattern clearly. In recent DU admission cycles, B.A. (Hons) Economics, BMS and BBA-FIA have generally required Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, with no Accountancy-based alternative. B.Com (Hons) at DU, by contrast, has accepted an Accountancy-based CUET subject combination as well as a Maths-based one. CUET adds a second lock. For DU admissions, the CUET subjects a student picks generally need to match subjects studied in Class 12, so the Class 11 choice carries all the way into college applications. Even where school maths is not an eligibility condition, entrance tests often include a quantitative aptitude section. Degrees built on maths sit further down the same road. SAGE University's guide describes Bachelor of Statistics as suited to commerce students with strong mathematical and analytical skills, and actuarial science is often suggested on Quora for commerce students who enjoy maths . Families looking at IPMAT, IIM Indore's entrance test for its integrated programme in management, should read the current test pattern and eligibility on IIM Indore's admissions page before fixing Class 11 subjects. Read this table as a map of where to check, not a rulebook: every rule in it can change from one admission cycle to the next. GRJIS builds its commerce programme around Applied Mathematics and career guidance Guru Rajendra Jain International School (GRJIS), a residential school at Mohankheda in Dhar district near Indore, runs a Grade 11 and 12 commerce programme with Accountancy, Economics, Business Studies, Statistics and English as its core. The optional subjects are Applied Mathematics, Physical Education, Informatics Practices and Hindi. GRJIS teaches Entrepreneurship only in a year when more than 15 students choose it. Two things follow for a GRJIS family. The maths choice at GRJIS is Applied Mathematics or a non-maths elective, and Applied Mathematics is the option this guide recommends to undecided students. Statistics sits in the core, so every commerce student builds data skills whichever elective they pick, which answers a worry often voiced on Quora that skipping maths makes financial analysis, forecasting and budgeting harder to grasp . Families who want Core Mathematics, or details of fees and admission dates, should ask the GRJIS admissions team. The subject choice at GRJIS comes with support around it. Grade 11 and 12 students get stream-specific career guidance, university short-listing, Life Readiness workshops and higher order thinking work, and the school uses tests and personal career coaching to help each student find where their strengths lie. For a student torn between CA and an economics degree, that means taking Applied Mathematics, testing both interests in Class 11, and short-listing universities in Class 12 against their current rules. Who should take maths in Class 11, and who can drop it? Take Applied Mathematics, or Core Mathematics where the school offers it, unless your child is firmly set on a route that does not need it. Keeping maths closes no doors, while dropping it closes some. Keep maths if any of these fit: Your child is undecided. Plans made at 15 can change before Class 12 ends, and Applied Mathematics costs little if they do. A maths-based CUET combination later depends on maths studied in Class 12. CA is the goal and maths comes easily. Maths is not an eligibility condition for CA, but Nirma University's career guide notes that CA suits students who are strong in accounting and mathematics. A student who keeps maths meets the Quantitative Aptitude paper already prepared. Economics honours, BMS or BBA-FIA is on the list. These programmes have generally asked for Mathematics or Applied Mathematics at DU, and many universities ask for maths for economics honours. Without it, the application stops at eligibility. Statistics, actuarial science, analytics or finance-heavy work appeals. These courses build directly on algebra, probability and statistics. Applied Mathematics covers much of that ground in Class 11 and 12. Drop maths only if all of these fit: The target route is CA, CS, CMA, B.Com or law, and it is firm. These routes stay open in eligibility terms without Class 12 maths. Check each target university's B.Com rules anyway, because they differ. Maths would pull other marks down. A student who struggles with algebra can still do well in Accountancy, which tests a different kind of thinking. The freed time goes into the core subjects that carry the board result. There is a plan for the quantitative content later. Some commerce students point out that CA entry exams and MBA entrance tests include quantitative sections , so the numbers return either way. Budget time in Class 12 for business maths and statistics. If two or more of the "keep maths" points fit your child, take Applied Mathematics and move on to the next decision. Class 11 Commerce Subjects: Maths or No Maths, and Where Each Leads

Class 11 commerce subjects in most CBSE schools are Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics and English, plus one elective such as Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Informatics Practices or Physical Education. Most commerce students sit five subjects in total. The electives on offer depend on the school, so families should check the school's own subject list before choosing.

Take commerce with maths, or Applied Mathematics, if you are undecided or interested in economics honours, BMS, statistics, analytics or management entrance tests. Commerce without maths suits a student firmly set on CA, CS, CMA, B.Com or law who finds maths a strain. Taking maths closes no routes, while commerce without maths closes some.

Maths in Class 11 and 12 is not a listed eligibility condition for CA under ICAI's rules as currently reported, and Coursera's 2025 guide lists CA among the routes open without maths. CA still tests maths through the Quantitative Aptitude paper in CA Foundation. Confirm the current CA rules on ICAI's website before deciding.

Is maths compulsory for CA?

After 12th commerce, students can take B.Com, BBA, BMS, an economics degree, an integrated law degree such as BA LLB, or professional courses such as CA, CS and CMA. Some later add an MBA or move into banking, audit and marketing. Which routes stay open depends partly on whether the student kept maths in Class 11 and 12.

Dropping maths in Class 11 does affect CUET choices. For Delhi University admissions, the CUET subjects a student picks generally need to match subjects studied in Class 12, so a student without Mathematics or Applied Mathematics cannot use a maths-based combination. DU's B.Com (Hons) has accepted an Accountancy-based combination in recent cycles; check the current DU CSAS bulletin.

Does dropping maths in Class 11 affect CUET?

Commerce without maths is a sound choice for a student set on CA, CS, CMA, B.Com or law. One BBA graduate who first urged students to take maths later wrote on Quora that topics like integration are rarely used outside finance and analytics specialisations. The real cost of commerce without maths is a shorter list of quantitative degrees.
